A renowned Singaporean diplomat, geopolitical consultant, and author will launch his latest memoir at the 50th Philippine Business Conference & Expo (PBC&E) in October, the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry has announced in a statement

Kishore Mahbubani, who has played a pivotal role in shaping Singapore’s foreign policy, will share his insights on the factors that have enabled Asia’s rise to prominence.

Mahbubani’s memoir, Living the Asian Century, is a candid account of his journey from poverty to prominence.

The book chronicles his experiences as a diplomat and his observations on the changing landscape of Asia.

According to the book’s blurb, Mahbubani “traces the transformation of the Republic of Singapore from a poor colony into an Asian powerhouse.”

Growing up in poverty in the 1950s, Mahbubani expected to become a common textile salesman after finishing high school.

Instead, a government scholarship sent him to the University of Singapore, and four years later he found himself in the country’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The Philippine launch of the memoir will be held at the Marriott Grand Ballroom in Pasay City on October 22-23 during the 50th outing of the PBC&E.

Mahbubani will be the keynote speaker at the conference, where he will discuss the key priorities for Asia’s emerging countries.

“We are glad he accepted our invitation,” said Jude Aguilar, chairman of the 50th PBC&E. “It will certainly be an interesting and thought-provoking session hosted by former BBC News Anchor Rico Hizon.”

Mahbubani is a distinguished fellow at the Asia Research Institute of the National University of Singapore.

He has served as the Founding Dean of the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy and has held various positions in the Singapore government.

In addition to his diplomatic career, Mahbubani is a prolific author. He has published several books on Asian politics and global governance. His latest book, Living the Asian Century, was released in August.Ⓒ
