Holcim Philippines took a big step in promoting sustainable construction by opening its first-ever innovation hub in Davao City. Unveiled on January 16, the hub is a pioneering facility focused on providing better building solutions, showcasing Holcim’s dedication to supporting the nation’s development.
Addressing the media during a press briefing, Horia Adrian, president, and chief operating officer of Holcim Philippines, emphasized the hub’s pivotal role. “This facility serves as a co-creation lab, accelerating the development of low-carbon, circular, and energy-efficient structures globally,” Adrian said.
He went on to express the company’s vision of providing clients and partners with a virtual experience of the renowned Holcim Innovation Hub in France. “We will showcase exciting new materials for more sustainable and innovative construction,” Adrian added.
Adrian emphasized the Innovation Hub’s importance in addressing Mindanao’s urban challenges, urging residents to explore Holcim’s showroom. The showroom demonstrates groundbreaking solutions for building structures with minimal environmental impact, promoting decarbonization throughout their life cycle.
At the forefront of the showcased solutions are environmentally conscious materials, including ECOPact concrete and ECOPlanet cement. The innovation hub also features circular construction solutions, such as Holcim’s proprietary ECOCycle® circular technology platform. This platform excels in recycling construction demolition materials, transforming them into new, sustainable building solutions.
Ramakrishna Maganti, Holcim’s senior vice president and head of infrastructure and industrial sales, emphasized the company’s commitment to accelerating transformation. Holcim Philippines is committed to sustainable and innovative building solutions, focusing on advancing decarbonization and promoting a circular economy in the construction industry.
Maganti emphasized their active efforts toward achieving a net-zero future, benefiting both people and the planet with record performance.
Since 2018, Holcim Philippines has achieved over 20% reduction in its carbon footprint. This achievement is attributed to strategic measures, including the production of more blended cement, the substitution of coal with qualified waste as alternative fuels, and the enhancement of operational efficiency.
Holcim Philippines’ new innovation hub is a crucial step for sustainable building solutions. Serving as a platform for exploring innovative materials and construction techniques, the hub represents progress in the nation’s pursuit of eco-friendly structures. Holcim’s commitment to decarbonization and circular economy practices is evident, shaping a greener future for the construction industry.◼
