Consul Enunina “Nina” Mangio, owner of the SamgyeopMasarap restaurant chain, has been elected as the new president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI). Mangio’s presidency marks a significant milestone as she becomes the third woman to lead the organization since its establishment in 1978. The announcement was made following her unanimous election by the 20-member board of directors during the annual meeting on December 1.

Expressing gratitude for the trust placed in her, Mangio, also an Honorary Consul of the Republic of Liberia, conveyed her commitment to serving the chamber and representing it both locally and globally. “I will do my best to serve the chamber movement and represent the organization in the local and global arena,” Mangio said.

Mangio outlined her vision for the PCCI, emphasizing her dedication to continuing the initiatives of her predecessor and actively collaborating with the national government to attract local and foreign investors to the country. Furthermore, she pledged to advocate for programs fostering business growth and job creation nationwide.

The incoming board of directors, composed of accomplished individuals from various sectors, is set to officially assume their roles in January 2024. Notable members include George T. Barcelon, president of Integrated Computer Systems, and Michael Tan, COO of Asia Brewery Inc.

The newly-elected president, a licensed chemical engineer, brings extensive business experience to her role, overseeing multiple enterprises. Currently serving as president of Servcare International Corporation, chairman of the board for Mawell Chemical Corporation, and leading Choosers Choice Food & Development Corporation, a chain of 56 casual dining restaurants, Mangio is well-positioned to drive the PCCI’s agenda.

Over the years, the PCCI has played a pivotal role in shaping policies that stimulate business and economic growth, with a keen focus on supporting micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). Mangio, as the new president, is poised to lead the organization in continuing these efforts, amplifying the voice of businesses and providing guidance to members, especially MSMEs, in navigating challenges.

The PCCI, known for its influence in policy formulation and representation of business interests, has been a crucial entity for its members. Mangio’s presidency brings a fresh perspective and a proactive approach to addressing the evolving needs of businesses in the Philippines. 

As the country looks toward 2024, there is anticipation for positive developments under Mangio’s leadership, fostering an environment conducive to business growth and job creation nationwide.◼
