The Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI), the largest business organization in the Philippines, has awarded the 2023 Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit Award to seven local government units (LGUs) that have excelled in revitalizing and expanding their business activities through innovative and sustained actions.
Tagbilaran City, led by Mayor Jane Censoria Cajes-Yap, takes the spotlight this year as it secures the prestigious Hall of Fame Award. Tagbilaran City has consistently been recognized as PCCI’s Most Business-Friendly Local Government Unit in the City Level 3 category for the years 2020, 2022, and 2023.
Mayor Yap expressed her gratitude for the tireless efforts that have transformed Tagbilaran City into a thriving hub for businesses, both large and small. She dedicated the award to all the residents of Tagbilaran City, highlighting the commitment to create an inclusive and dynamic business environment.
The award ceremony, held at the Grand Ballroom of the Manila Hotel during the conclusion of the 49th Philippine Business Conference & Expo, saw Executive Secretary Lucas P. Bersamin, PCCI President George T. Barcelon, and other prominent figures bestowing the accolades.
The “Most Business-Friendly” distinction is an esteemed annual honor that acknowledges local governments fostering a conducive atmosphere for business growth.
The 2023 awardees also include Bataan, led by Governor Jose Enrique S. Garcia III (provincial level); Quezon City, led by Mayor Maria Josefina G. Belmonte (city level 1A); Iloilo City, led by Mayor Jerry P. Treñas (city level 1B); Antipolo City, led by Mayor Casimiro A. Ynares III (city level 2); Tanay, Rizal, led by Mayor Rafael A. Tanjuatco (municipality level 1); and Pakil, Laguna, led by Mayor Vincent L. Soriano (municipality level 2).
The judging criteria included: fast-tracking local sustainable economic development, ease of doing business initiatives, investment promotion initiatives, and enhancing sectoral competitiveness initiatives.
In addition to the main awardees, special citations were also given to other LGUs that demonstrated excellence in specific business development criteria. These included Bulacan, Cavite, and Tarlac for the provincial level; Muntinlupa City for city level 1A; Baguio City and Mandaue City for city level 1B; General Trias City and Santa Rosa City for city level 2; San Fernando City (La Union) for city level 3; Kawit, Cavite for municipality level 1; and Concepcion, Iloilo, and Magallanes, Cavite for municipality level 2. ◼
