The WEF’s revelation is based on data from the Nomad List, a platform where more than 10,000 members document their work locations. This list showcases the ten fastest-growing remote work hubs across the globe, with the Philippines solidifying its presence as the seventh fastest-growing remote work hub in the current year.

Tracking the Philippines’ progress over the past five years, from 2018 to 2022, it recorded an impressive 78% growth. The momentum continued into 2023, with a notable 60% growth recorded in the first ten months of the year. The previous year was nothing short of extraordinary, as the country witnessed a staggering 1,183% growth.

The rankings on Nomad List are determined by the growth rates of check-ins by tens of thousands of its members, utilizing live data from an astounding 299,498 check-ins. The primary ranking factor is the most recent growth in check-ins, providing an insight into the places currently gaining popularity among remote workers and travelers.

Nomad List, with its finger on the pulse of the remote work landscape, curates data on thousands of cities worldwide, encompassing aspects like cost of living, climate, and safety, to help remote workers and travelers make informed decisions about where to live and work. 

In the latest list, the Philippines is joined by other global destinations that remote workers are flocking to. The rankings include Ljubljana, Slovenia at the 10th spot; Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam at 9th; Hanoi, Vietnam at 8th; Manila, Philippines securing the 7th position; Montevideo, Uruguay standing at 6th; Penang, Malaysia at 5th; Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia at 4th; Seoul, South Korea holding the 3rd place; and Danang, Vietnam at 2nd. Tokyo, Japan has been named the fastest remote work hub globally.
