The 49th Philippine Business Conference and Expo (PBC&E) gears up for its main event on October 25 and 26, and is set to be a significant moment for the country’s business community. The conference aspires to make the Philippines one of the world’s top 20 economies by 2050.
In a pre-event speech on October 24, Felino Palafox, Jr., 49th PBC&E’s chairman emphasized the importance of this vision and his commitment to lead the initiative.
He stated, “I thought it would be a great opportunity for me and the PCCI to put on the table our aspirations for the country and lead the discussions in making the Philippines one of the top 20 first world economies by 2050.”
He highlighted the Philippines’ economic potential, including geothermal energy, business process outsourcing, shipbuilding, and mineral resources worth over $3 trillion. He also mentioned the country’s extensive coastline, larger than that of the mainland United States.
Acknowledging challenges like corruption, red tape, criminality, climate change, underinvestment, and infrastructure deficiencies, he called for a collaborative effort between the government, private sector, and the citizenry.
The PBC&E, with over 1200 delegates, hosts plenary sessions with prominent speakers from government, industry, and development partners. Delegates can engage in business matching and networking sessions.
Vice President Sara Duterte delivers the opening keynote, and the President may receive a set of policy resolutions at the conference’s conclusion.◼
